CRSHMARKET blends livestreaming and betting, drawing social media backlash

CRSHMARKET has launched a platform that merges livestreaming content with live betting, generating considerable controversy across social media. The app allows viewers to wager on the outcomes of events occurring during a live broadcast, a feature that has led some users to label it "dystopian."

A recent promotional video for the service, which has garnered millions of views, depicts a streamer engaging in various challenges while viewers place bets in real-time. The ad concludes with the streamer's father placing a wager, adding an emotional layer. CRSHMARKET's tagline is "Predict anything."

Social media users have voiced concerns regarding the platform's model, citing potential insider trading and its encouragement of gambling. Comparisons have been drawn to the science fiction series "Black Mirror." In response to insider trading allegations, the CRSHMARKET account stated the issue is "covered."

CRSHMARKET's platform is operational but currently focuses on predicting outcomes in video games such as Among Us and Rocket League. The company has previously experimented with betting on street interviews. More freeform livestreams, like the one featured in the advertisement, are not yet available.
