Crumbl Cookies Adopts Metsä Board Packaging Solutions

Bakery company Crumbl Cookies has adopted Metsä Board's food-safe dispersion barrier board, MetsäBoard Prime FBB EB, for packaging its fresh cookies. The move aims to reduce plastic consumption, enhance recyclability, and lower the company's carbon footprint.

The new packaging solution has enabled Crumbl Cookies to achieve a 32% reduction in package weight and decrease its carbon footprint by over 50%, according to Metsä Board Sales Manager Geoff Petty. The dispersion barrier board also provides necessary protection against grease and moisture, ensuring safe shipment and takeout of the products.

Crumbl Cookies, which sells millions of cookies weekly, has significantly reduced waste by eliminating an additional coating material from its previous packaging. Katie Dunn, Crumbl's Senior Director of Procurement, highlighted that the packaging's environmental friendliness and recyclability were key factors in their decision.

Founded five years ago, Crumbl Cookies has rapidly expanded to over 600 locations across the United States, with plans to open 40-50 new stores monthly. The company has built its brand through social media platforms like TikTok and Instagram, while emphasizing its commitment to environmental responsibility.

Crumbl Cookies has expressed satisfaction with the collaboration with Metsä Board, particularly noting the reliability of the supply chain and consistent availability of paperboard. Dunn described the partnership as exceeding a typical business relationship, providing the company with expert support on packaging matters.
