Crypto Stocks Rally as Capital Rotates From AI Infrastructure

Cryptocurrency stocks were among the top performers on Monday, driven by a rotation of capital away from chip and AI infrastructure companies as the broader market declined. Bitcoin mining companies, many of which have been expanding operations to capitalize on the AI boom, saw their stock prices fall.

Bitmine Immersion led the gains, surging 11% after announcing an increase in its ether holdings by nearly 10,000 coins, valued at approximately $19.4 million. Strategy, which has focused on building its bitcoin reserves, rose 7% despite not acquiring new bitcoin recently.

The sector-wide movement occurred alongside a sharp sell-off in oil prices, lower Treasury yields, and continued pressure on memory chip and AI stocks. Investors' concerns about capital expenditure requirements and potentially higher financing costs for AI development appeared to fuel the rotation into crypto-related themes.

Bitcoin mining companies, increasingly valued for their digital infrastructure assets and energy contracts rather than just bitcoin production, experienced declines. Cipher Mining led the group with an 8% drop, followed by other miners such as Riot Platforms and Mara Holdings, even those with less direct exposure to major AI initiatives.
