Crystal Pharmatech commissions ELDICO ED-1 electron diffractometer in Suzhou

Crystal Pharmatech has successfully installed an ELDICO ED-1 electron diffractometer at its R&D center in Suzhou, China. The company confirms that the unit is fully operational, marking the first deployment of this technology in the Asia-Pacific region and opening MicroED services to its global client base.

The ED-1 system is engineered for small-molecule crystal diffraction, featuring a horizontal beam path and a hybrid pixel detector. By moving away from general-purpose cryo-electron microscopy toward this dedicated, automated platform, the company aims to integrate structural analysis directly into its standard solid-form screening workflow. This capability allows for the identification of complex crystal structures using sub-micron powders, removing the requirement to grow large single crystals.

CEO Alex Chen stated that the instrument has already become a core component of their laboratory operations. The service model offers standard results within two weeks, with an expedited turnaround time of 48 hours for urgent projects.

Crystal Pharmatech plans to showcase the capabilities of this technology during a symposium in Boston on November 19, 2026. The event will focus on the application of MicroED in pharmaceutical development and solid-state characterization.
