Cupra Tavascan gets new base model with LFP battery and 140 kW motor

Cupra is introducing an updated Tavascan electric SUV for the 2026 model year, highlighted by a new, more accessible base variant. This entry-level model will feature a lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery and a 140 kW (approximately 190 hp) electric motor producing 350 Nm of torque. The Tavascan's range is rated at 435 km (WLTP) with this configuration.

The new LFP battery enables faster charging, with the ability to replenish from 10% to 80% in 26 minutes. The peak DC charging rate is 105 kW. Cupra will continue to offer the existing 210 kW and 250 kW powertrain options alongside the new base model.

Inside, the Tavascan receives updated infotainment hardware and software, moving away from touch-sensitive controls on the steering wheel in favor of physical buttons. New features are expected to include smartphone-as-key functionality and enhanced one-pedal driving capabilities. An improved sound system developed with Sennheiser is also part of the update.

Visually, the exterior remains largely unchanged, with the addition of a "Midnight Black" paint option. While official pricing has not yet been released, the new 140 kW base model is anticipated to be priced below 50,000 euros, a reduction from the current model's starting price of over 53,000 euros for the 210 kW version. Pre-production has commenced, with customer deliveries scheduled to begin in the summer of 2026.
