Cursor integrates real-time voice chat for AI coding agents

Cursor has introduced a real-time voice chat feature, allowing developers to communicate verbally with AI coding agents to manage tasks and monitor progress.

6 November 2026

Cursor has updated its AI-powered code editor to include a bi-directional voice chat interface. The feature allows developers to issue verbal instructions for code modifications, query task status, and review changes without interrupting background coding processes.

The system, powered by Grok Voice technology for speech processing, operates across the company's IDE, web platform, and iOS application. Users can initiate conversations via the interface or through Siri on iPhone. Unlike traditional speech-to-text dictation, the agent can provide verbal progress reports while executing tasks.

Functionally, the tool enables read-only queries regarding code history and run status while agents remain active. Cursor has introduced multiple voice profiles for the agents and implemented a privacy mode that prevents data retention. The service is subject to daily usage limits to manage server load and resource allocation.
