Customs Seizes 40 Used Mobile Phones Bound to Traveler

Zhuhai Gongbei Customs recently confiscated 40 used mobile phones that a traveler had concealed on their person. The incident occurred on September 10, when a female traveler from mainland China attempted to pass through the border crossing. Customs officers intercepted the individual after noticing deliberate attempts to blend in with other travelers to evade inspection.

Upon closer examination, officers discovered that the traveler had wrapped the phones in plastic film and strapped them around their waist and legs. Customs officials described the method as a typical case of smuggling electronic products by concealing them on the body. The seized phones have been temporarily detained by customs for further processing in accordance with relevant regulations.

Smuggling attempts at border crossings are a persistent challenge for authorities. The illicit trade of electronic devices, particularly older models, can be linked to tax evasion or other illegal commercial activities. Customs agencies maintain vigilant surveillance at border points to deter such occurrences.
