CVS Pharmacies to Dispense Pet Prescription Medications

CVS Health, a major U.S. pharmacy chain, revealed on Tuesday its plan to start dispensing prescription medications for dogs and cats at about 9,000 CVS Pharmacy locations across the country. This expansion allows pet owners to fill their animals' prescriptions at the same retail outlets where they obtain their own medications.

The range of pet medications will include items such as antibiotics, allergy treatments, flea and tick control, insulin, and pain relievers. CVS Pharmacy will also offer services like automatic refills, prescription syncing, and, for eligible medications, delivery options. Pet owners can bring in paper prescriptions or have their veterinarian send them directly to the pharmacy.

To streamline the process, customers can add their pets to their CVS profile, enabling online management of prescriptions via the CVS Health app. The company stated that further enhancements, including electronic prescription capabilities, are planned for the coming months.

CVS joins other major retailers like Costco, Walmart, Walgreens, and Publix that already provide prescription services for pets. This move is part of CVS Health's broader strategy to solidify its role as a comprehensive provider of health and wellness solutions.
