CXMT Becomes China's Most Valuable A-Share Company After $8.6 Billion IPO

ChangXin Memory Technologies (CXMT), China's largest domestic DRAM manufacturer, raised RMB57.92 billion ($8.6 billion) in its Shanghai STAR Market IPO on July 27, marking the largest semiconductor offering on record in mainland China. By midday, its shares had climbed 531% from the IPO price, pushing its market value to RMB3.66 trillion and making it the most valuable company listed on China's mainland exchanges.

The scale of CXMT's debut is significant, transforming a memory chip manufacturer into China's largest A-share company by market capitalization. This valuation surpasses major banks, internet companies, and even some established chipmakers. The IPO was the largest on Shanghai's STAR Market and the second-largest on a mainland Chinese exchange since Agricultural Bank of China's 2010 offering.

Investor demand for domestic semiconductor companies, coupled with expectations that AI infrastructure will continue to drive memory demand, contributed to CXMT's valuation. The company plans to allocate RMB29.5 billion of the proceeds towards production-line upgrades, DRAM technology advancements, and future DRAM research and development.

CXMT's core business involves DRAM memory, essential for servers, PCs, smartphones, and automobiles. In the first quarter of 2026, the company reported RMB50.8 billion in revenue, a year-on-year increase of over 700%, driven by heightened demand for memory chips alongside AI server investments. Its future valuation will depend on its ability to leverage its manufacturing scale into higher-value products.
