A new 2.5D side-scrolling fighting game based on the Cyberpunk: Edgerunners anime series has reportedly surfaced, with development rumored to be handled by WayForward studio. The project, codenamed "Gemini," has been in development since at least 2025, according to industry reports. However, the current development status of the game remains unconfirmed.

The game is planned to feature a "rollback" netcode system and a distinct animated art style. Gameplay descriptions suggest it will resemble titles such as the "River City Girls" series, focusing on accessible yet engaging combat mechanics.

This news comes after WayForward cancelled an unannounced external IP game last year due to funding issues, which also led to layoffs. It is currently unclear whether "Gemini" was the project that was shelved or if it is an entirely separate endeavor.

CD Projekt, the rights holder for the Cyberpunk franchise, has not yet responded to requests for comment. The reveal has generated interest within the gaming community, but official details regarding release windows or supported platforms are still pending.
