Cybersecurity Companies Raised $6.8B in Third Quarter

Companies focused on cybersecurity and privacy globally raised a total of $6.8 billion in funding during the third quarter of 2026. This figure represents a significant increase of approximately 50% compared to the previous quarter and ties for the highest quarterly tally in recent years.

The surge in funding was attributed to larger investment rounds rather than an increase in the number of deals. Data indicates that the count of funding rounds across all stages actually declined sequentially during the last quarter.

AI-focused startups accounted for the majority of the funding, with a particular emphasis on identity security. At least 18 companies operating at the intersection of artificial intelligence and cybersecurity closed rounds exceeding $100 million. Keyfactor, an enterprise identity security provider, was the largest recipient, securing $1 billion in a July growth round.

Other significant funding recipients included Island, which raised $400 million, and Cyera, which received $400 million in investment, valuing the company at $12 billion. Notable acquisitions also occurred, with Visa purchasing anti-fraud provider BioCatch for $2.4 billion, and Cyera acquiring enterprise access management platform Oasis Security for an estimated $1 billion.

Aura was the sole sizable venture-backed market debut, achieved through its acquisition of Australian public company Qoria. The overall funding environment for cybersecurity startups appears robust, reflecting ongoing concerns about the risks associated with rapid advancements in artificial intelligence.
