Cycling Legends Froome and Contador to Headline Best Buddies Challenge: New York

New York – Professional cyclists Chris Froome and Alberto Contador, both multiple Grand Tour winners, are set to headline the 2026 Best Buddies Challenge: New York on Saturday, October 3. The event, which includes cycling, running, and walking, benefits Best Buddies International, a nonprofit organization dedicated to creating opportunities for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD).

Approximately 750 participants are expected to attend the challenge, which aims to raise $4 million to support Best Buddies' programs. The organization focuses on fostering one-to-one friendships, integrated employment, leadership development, and inclusive living for people with IDD. Last year's event generated significant energy, and organizers aim to build on that momentum.

The challenge will commence with a welcome reception at the Rainbow Room in New York City on Friday, October 2. The following day, Froome and Contador will lead hundreds of cyclists on a 100-mile route starting in New York City, crossing the George Washington Bridge, and proceeding north along the Hudson River Valley to Bear Mountain State Park. The route concludes at Glenmere Mansion.

Alternative cycling routes of 72 and 33 miles are also available, making the event accessible to participants of varying abilities. The challenge is presented by Jersey Mike's Subs and Wells Fargo, with support from other sponsors. Best Buddies International's mission extends across all 50 states and 41 countries, impacting over 1.5 million lives.
