D-Tension & The Secrets Release Self-Titled Debut Album

Massachusetts-based rock band D-Tension & The Secrets has released their self-titled debut album. The nine-song collection spans rock, alt-rock, punk, and power-pop genres.

The band's formation stemmed from an unexpected musical pivot. D-Tension, who had previously established an international career as a hip-hop artist touring with acts like DMX and Ja Rule, transitioned to rock music during the pandemic lockdown after winning a Fender Jazzmaster in an online contest.

D-Tension, known for his production work with artists such as Slug of Atmosphere, initially grew up listening to rock records but began playing guitar during the pandemic. Utilizing online tutorials, he quickly learned the instrument and began recording his own material. His first rock project, Secret Rock & Roll Project, released in 2021, featured collaborations with musicians from bands like Agnostic Front and Dresden Dolls.

Following the reopening of the world, D-Tension formed The Secrets in his hometown of Lowell, Massachusetts. The band's second album, Tales From The Pub, was released by Red on Red Records, and they participated in the Rock & Roll Rumble competition. Their music is characterized by melody, hooks, and storytelling.

The new self-titled album is the first to be recorded entirely as a band. The opening track, "Hate To See You Go," draws influence from Irish punk, with echoes of bands like Dropkick Murphys and Rancid. Other tracks, such as "Banned," "Crime Spree," and "Violated," explore elements of psychobilly, dark humor, and hard rock. D-Tension describes the album as "your favorite hour of rock and roll radio."
