Early adopters of robotic surgery, such as Dr. Tanuja Damani, a general surgeon at New York University, initially encountered considerable peer skepticism. Dr. Damani recalls her first experience with the da Vinci console 12 years ago, recognizing its future potential despite the prevailing doubts.
Through their perseverance and mentorship, pioneers like Dr. Damani have facilitated the adoption process for subsequent surgeons. Dr. Amanda Pysher, a surgeon in Northern Virginia, benefited from a more established mentoring network during her training. She has since transitioned to performing nearly all her procedures robotically and now mentors others.
