Daikin to supply Hitachi Energy with gas for sustainable high-voltage grids

Hitachi Energy has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Daikin Industries, Ltd. for the supply of C4-FN gas to Germany. This strategic partnership is set to support the rapid expansion of Hitachi Energy's EconiQ® portfolio, which focuses on developing sulfur hexafluoride (SF6)-free grid technologies.

The newly supplied C4-FN gas serves as a crucial component in Hitachi Energy's SF6-free switchgear. SF6 gas has been a standard insulating gas in high-voltage equipment, but its potent greenhouse gas properties pose an environmental concern. The transition to alternatives like C4-FN is driven by the need for more sustainable solutions in the energy sector to meet climate goals.

Daikin's C4-FN gas enables the development of high-voltage equipment that does not rely on SF6. This addresses the growing market demand for environmentally friendly grid technologies, particularly for substations and transmission networks, which are critical infrastructure for the global energy supply.

The production of C4-FN in Germany marks a significant step in strengthening the supply chain and reducing associated transportation emissions. Hitachi Energy aims to facilitate the global transition towards more sustainable power grids, and this agreement is a key part of that initiative.
