Dairy Queen Closes Three Alaska Locations

Three Dairy Queen restaurants in Alaska have closed their doors this month, according to local reports. The franchise owner responsible for the Anchorage, Wasilla, and Palmer locations made the decision to shutter the establishments.

This development follows a larger wave of closures in Texas earlier in 2025, where over 40 locations were affected, largely due to disagreements between Dairy Queen and franchisee Project Lonestar regarding remodeling efforts.

With these recent closures, Alaska is left with only one remaining Dairy Queen location in Soldotna, down from multiple stores. The company indicates on its website that it operates more than 7,800 locations globally.

Dairy Queen, owned by International Dairy Queen (a subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway), announced in late June plans to expand in Puerto Rico. The company intends to open 20 DQ Grill and Chill restaurants there by 2036, offering both hot food and frozen desserts.
