DALY BMS Explains Battery Management System Functions

A Battery Management System (BMS) is a critical component of an energy storage system, monitoring and controlling batteries to ensure safety and longevity.

27 September 2026

DALY BMS has released information detailing the function and importance of a Battery Management System (BMS).

The BMS is a device designed to monitor and manage energy storage batteries. Its primary role is to ensure the safe and efficient operation of batteries by preventing overcharging and over-discharging, thereby extending their service life. The system collects real-time data, including individual cell voltages, temperatures, currents, and the overall battery pack voltage.

Key functions of the BMS include state management, balance management, and safety management. State management involves calculating the State of Charge (SOC) and State of Health (SOH) of the battery, as well as measuring fundamental parameters like voltage, current, and temperature. Insulation resistance detection is also a crucial safety feature.

Balance management is vital due to inherent variations in individual battery cells stemming from production inconsistencies and differing electrochemical reactions. The BMS works to equalize the charge across cells during charging and discharging cycles to prevent individual cells from being overstressed or excessively depleted.

Furthermore, the BMS can communicate with external systems such as PCS (Power Conversion Systems), EMS (Energy Management Systems), and fire protection systems. This interoperability enables coordinated control and ensures the safety and efficient grid connection of the entire energy storage power station.
