DALY BMS has released a technical guide aimed at assisting battery pack manufacturers and energy storage integrators in selecting suitable 48V LiFePO4 Battery Management Systems (BMS) for home energy storage applications.

The selection process begins with battery design specifics, including the number of series-connected cells, charge and discharge currents, inverter communication requirements, temperature conditions, and plans for parallel connections. DALY emphasizes that the "48V" label alone is insufficient; the actual series cell count, typically 16 cells (16S) resulting in a 51.2V nominal voltage, must be confirmed.

The guide advises calculating the required continuous charge and discharge current by estimating the inverter's output power, the lowest relevant battery voltage, and the inverter's efficiency. For example, a 5,000W inverter with 0.90 efficiency might require approximately 116A or more DC current at lower voltages. It is crucial to check the inverter's continuous power, surge durations, the battery's permitted discharge and charge rates, and the BMS's technical ratings.

Regarding communication needs, users must verify if the inverter requires battery communication (such as CAN or RS485) and which protocol version is compatible. DALY BMS notes that mere interface compatibility does not guarantee functionality. Additionally, temperature protection and cell balancing methods (passive or active) should be reviewed for suitability with the installation environment and specific cells. Battery packs connected in parallel are treated as separate design checks.

DALY offers 4th-generation LK series BMS with a 100A continuous current rating and LM series with 150A and 200A continuous current options. The final selection requires comparing specific technical data and models, and confirming details from the product datasheet.
