Dangbei Projector Technology Aims to Reduce Motion Blur for Sports Viewers

Dangbei, a projector manufacturer, has unveiled its Motion Estimation, Motion Compensation (MEMC) technology, aimed at improving the picture quality of home projectors, especially for sports broadcasts and other fast-paced content. This technology addresses a common issue on large projection screens where rapid camera movements or athlete actions can cause stuttering and blur.

MEMC operates by analyzing consecutive image frames and creating artificial intermediate frames in real-time. This process increases the frame rate, resulting in smoother motion without sacrificing image detail. Dangbei claims that MEMC technology eliminates motion blur and judder, while enhancing clarity and detail retention even during rapid sequences, such as football goalmouth action or racing car overtakes.

The improvement is particularly noticeable on large screens, exceeding 100 inches, where minor visual flaws become significantly more apparent. The MEMC feature is primarily targeted at sports fans and home theater enthusiasts seeking the most realistic and comfortable viewing experience possible. It also aims to reduce eye strain during extended viewing sessions by maintaining a more stable and natural image.

Dangbei believes MEMC is key to creating an immersive "home stadium" experience. The technology is integrated into the projectors' image processing chips and functions independently of the video source's frame rate.
