DARPA Contracts to Advance MagLev Aero's New Drone Propulsion Technology
MagLev Aero has secured two DARPA contracts to advance next-generation drone propulsion technology. The funding will accelerate the technology's path to flight readiness and support the development of U.S.-manufactured systems.

MagLev Aero has received two contracts from the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) to advance its next-generation drone propulsion technology. The awards, under the Minimum Viable Product (MVP) and Embedded Entrepreneur Initiative (EEI) programs, provide non-dilutive funding to accelerate the technology towards achieving Technology Readiness Level 6 (TRL-6) flight capabilities.
The company's propulsion technology aims to deliver increased thrust with reduced power consumption. This development could significantly enhance drone speed, operational range, and payload capacity, while also reducing noise signatures. These improvements are crucial for defense applications requiring stealth and counter-drone capabilities, as well as for the expanding commercial advanced air mobility (AAM) market.
The DARPA MVP contract focuses on accelerating the transition from prototype to a flight-tested demonstration platform. This effort aims to de-risk integration for airframers and OEMs, aligning with U.S. "Drone Dominance" initiatives and the growing AAM sector.
The EEI award concentrates on commercialization and U.S. industrialization strategies. It includes embedding an experienced business leader to navigate federal acquisition frameworks and strengthen domestic manufacturing capabilities, supporting national objectives for secure supply chains.
