Dassault Aviation and Thales begin AI research for future combat aviation
The French defense procurement agency has commissioned Dassault Aviation and Thales to develop artificial intelligence technologies for next-generation combat aircraft.
Dassault Aviation and Thales have officially launched the Man-Machine-Teaming (MMT) research program, a three-year effort focused on integrating artificial intelligence into future combat aviation systems. The French defense procurement agency, DGA, awarded the contract to address the evolving requirements of military aerial operations.
The project centers on a "cognitive air system," which seeks to balance increased aircraft autonomy with the necessity of maintaining human oversight in the decision-making process. Key research areas include the development of machine learning capabilities, advanced cockpit interfaces, and smart, adaptive sensors.
By incorporating a broad network of French startups, laboratories, and research centers, the program aims to foster innovation in robotics and human-machine interaction. This collaboration represents a strategic move by the French defense sector to secure domestic leadership in combat systems and AI integration.
