Dassault Aviation and Thales, operating through its artificial intelligence (AI) accelerator cortAIx, have established a strategic partnership. The agreement focuses on the development of controlled and supervised AI technologies for the defense aviation sector. The pact was signed on November 18 by Eric Trappier, CEO of Dassault Aviation, and Patrice Caine, CEO of Thales.

The collaboration aims to create sovereign AI solutions that can be integrated into both manned and unmanned aircraft systems. These solutions will encompass functions such as situational awareness, analysis, decision-making, and action control in military operations. The partnership emphasizes the development of AI for future collaborative combat air systems.

Both companies highlighted their commitment to developing trustworthy and sovereign AI. The work will adhere to national and European ethical guidelines and regulations, including the AI Act. Thales contributes its technological heritage and defense expertise through cortAIx, aiming to translate AI advancements into tangible capabilities for armed forces.

The partnership was showcased at the Adopt AI summit in Paris, underlining the ambition to advance AI research and innovation within the European defense landscape. The initiative is positioned to enhance the effectiveness and autonomy of future defense platforms while maintaining human oversight.
