Dassault Aviation tests AI algorithms on Rafale fighter jet

Dassault Aviation has conducted flight tests of two new AI algorithms on the Rafale fighter jet. The systems are intended to support flight crews and are being considered for future aircraft upgrades.

2 November 2026

Dassault Aviation has successfully tested two new sovereign AI algorithms during flight operations of the Rafale fighter jet. One algorithm was developed internally by the company's engineering teams, while the second was developed in partnership with Thales’s cortAIx division.

The initiative focuses on integrating controlled and supervised AI into the cockpit to provide operational assistance to the human crew. The company stated that the algorithms have reached a level of maturity that makes them eligible for inclusion in future Rafale upgrade cycles.

The development highlights the technical hurdles of military AI, particularly regarding data quality, processing constraints on embedded hardware, and systems integration. These tests represent the latest stage in Dassault Aviation’s long-standing role as an industrial architect for complex combat platforms.
