A wave of high-value cargo thefts targeting data center infrastructure has emerged, with losses exceeding $100 million since June. According to an investigation reported by Ars Technica, thieves are using digital intrusion tactics to hijack logistics shipments.

The process typically involves hacking the accounts of legitimate freight brokers to post fake shipment requests. When trucking companies bid on these posts, they are sent malicious links that compromise their systems, allowing the attackers to intercept authentic shipping orders and hire drivers under false pretenses or via compromised accounts.

Once the cargo is in transit, the perpetrators employ various methods to divert the goods for resale. In several instances, thieves have successfully used GPS spoofing technology to manipulate location data, effectively blinding security teams and preventing the tracking of high-value assets until the cargo has been secured by the thieves.
