Data center waste heat powers district heating
Kelvion's plate heat exchangers transfer waste heat from a data center in Finland into a local district heating system.
Kelvion is supplying heat exchangers for a data center in southern Finland, where the facility's waste heat is being channeled into the local district heating network. The solution utilizes gasketed plate heat exchangers from Kelvion's NX and NP series.
The growth in data center operations has increased the demand for cooling technology, leading to significant amounts of waste heat. This project aims to recover this waste heat and feed it into the district heating system, thereby reducing energy wastage. Kelvion's sales engineer Jarkko Hautajarvi noted the suitability of their equipment for both cooling data centers and transferring heat to the district heating network.
A total of one NP model and seven NX models have been installed and are operating successfully. These heat exchangers are designed for efficient, reliable, and sustainable operation. The project contributes to improved energy efficiency and reduced carbon emissions by utilizing heat energy that would otherwise be lost.
