DATA.BET Analyzes World Cup Betting Activity

DATA.BET, a provider of sportsbook solutions, has published a detailed analysis of betting activity during the FIFA World Cup 2026. The tournament, held across the United States, Canada, and Mexico, attracted a total of 6.8 million attendees across 104 matches.

The data indicates that pre-match betting accounted for 63% of the total turnover, with live betting markets holding a consistent 37% share throughout the six-week event. Stat-based markets, such as "Corners Total," proved significant, capturing over 11% of the overall turnover.

France led all nations in terms of generated stakes, followed by Spain, Argentina, England, and Belgium, which collectively accounted for 36.5% of the total turnover. The Bet Builder feature saw increased usage, enabling bettors to combine various markets, often centered around star players like Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappé.

Betting intensity grew as the tournament progressed. While group stage matches saw a higher volume of bets, the knockout stages matched group turnover with identical unique bettors but featured an average stake per bet that was 28% higher. Turnover peaked during the semifinals and the final. Yevhenii Ilchenko, Head of Sports at DATA.BET, commented that the betting turnover for the World Cup represented 58.5% compared to the Intel Extreme Masters Cologne Major 2026, highlighting the sustained engagement of bettors over the six weeks of the tournament.
