Dayton Children's Hospital has implemented Sectra's ophthalmology solution, integrating diagnostic imaging capabilities for eye care into its existing enterprise imaging platform. This move expands the hospital's Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) beyond its current radiology applications.
The new system allows clinicians to access and compare a patient's entire ophthalmology imaging history from a unified location. This unified approach is particularly beneficial for complex pediatric cases where a comprehensive historical view aids in diagnosis and treatment planning. The integration supports seamless review of imaging studies across different specialties, such as radiology and ophthalmology, when clinically relevant.
Dr. Abiodun Omoloja, Chief Medical Information Officer at Dayton Children's Hospital, highlighted the clinical advantage of having all ophthalmology imaging in one place. He noted that this consolidated view simplifies the review process and improves the ability to compare patient histories, especially in cases that involve multiple medical disciplines.
Sectra's enterprise imaging strategy aims to provide a single, integrated platform for all medical imaging needs. By extending the existing Sectra One deployment to include ophthalmology, Dayton Children's Hospital anticipates improved operational efficiency and reduced administrative complexity for its IT department. The implementation is expected to support approximately 2,000 ophthalmology exams annually.
