International medical imaging IT company Sectra announced that Dayton Children's Hospital is now live with its ophthalmology solution. This deployment expands the hospital's existing enterprise imaging platform, previously used for radiology, to include ophthalmology.

The integration aims to consolidate imaging data from various modalities and specialties into a single system. This allows clinicians to review and compare a patient's complete imaging history in one place, supporting more thorough clinical assessments, particularly for complex pediatric cases.

"Having all our ophthalmology imaging in one place makes it much easier for clinicians to review and compare a patient's history. When a case spans multiple specialties, such as oncology where a child may have both radiology and ophthalmology findings, they can access everything in a single session without switching between systems," stated Dr. Abiodun Omoloja, CMIO at Dayton Children's Hospital. "That kind of visibility matters when you are making decisions about a child's care."

By incorporating Sectra's ophthalmology module into its current enterprise imaging platform, clinicians can access ophthalmology images alongside radiology studies when clinically relevant. This offers a more complete view of a patient's imaging history. The hospital's IT department benefits from a unified system, enhancing operational efficiency and reducing administrative complexity.

The implementation took place during Sectra's fiscal year 2025/2026. The solution is expected to handle approximately 2,000 ophthalmology exams annually, reflecting an expansion of Sectra's capabilities within the hospital's imaging infrastructure.
