DBU marks milestone in Warsaw
Deutsche Bundesstiftung Umwelt (DBU) celebrated its 30-year environmental protection fellowship program with Poland in Warsaw, at the Polish Ministry of Environment in mid-June. The event commemorated the program's beginnings and honored its founder, Professor Dr. Maciej Nowicki.
Professor Nowicki received the DBU German Environmental Prize in 1996 for his dedication to environmental and nature conservation. His initiative led to the concept of supporting young Polish environmental professionals through research and practical placements in Germany. What began as a bilateral fellowship has grown into a successful international program supported by DBU.
Over the years, hundreds of Polish professionals have gained valuable experience in science, business, administration, and civil society, contributing this knowledge back to Poland and beyond.
The program has since expanded to include countries in Central and Eastern Europe, forming a broad European network for environmental protection, sustainability, and innovation. DBU Secretary General Alexander Bonde highlighted at the event that sustainable solutions are achieved through trust, cooperation, and open knowledge exchange across borders.
