The German Federal Environmental Foundation (DBU) will participate in the World Congress on Green Buildings, taking place in Berlin from June 9-11, 2026. The event highlights the growing importance of green roofs, facades, and indoor planting as effective measures against heatwaves, heavy rainfall, and high energy consumption, contributing to creating more livable cities.

DBU project manager Constanze Fuhrmann will moderate a session on "Greening of Monument Protected Buildings" on the first day of the congress. A key focus will be the DBU-supported project "Flourishing Old Towns, Green Roofs and Facades on Historic Buildings and Structures: Fundamentals for Feasibility, Implementation, and Care." This initiative, developed with the Bundesverband GebäudeGrün e. V. (BuGG), aims to establish foundational principles for the feasibility, implementation, and maintenance of green roofs and facades on historic structures.

The congress is set to convene approximately 800 participants from 23 countries. The program features over 80 expert presentations across 25 thematic blocks and includes an international trade exhibition with more than 50 exhibitors. Additionally, excursions to exemplary green building projects in Berlin will be offered. The event serves as a platform for exchange among planning professionals, policymakers, scientists, industry representatives, and associations.

Further details on the program and registration are available on the congress website.
