DC Studios Releases First Trailer for Clayface Film

DC Studios and Warner Brothers unveiled the first trailer for "Clayface" on Thursday, a film set to be part of the DC Universe's "Gods and Monsters" storyline. The movie focuses on the origin story of the character.

Initially, the project was developed by horror filmmaker Mike Flanagan, who drew inspiration from the 1992 Batman: The Animated Series episode "Feat of Clay." Flanagan aimed to blend body horror with a tragic thriller. Although he departed the project due to scheduling conflicts, the script reportedly retains his original story elements. DC Studios heads James Gunn and Peter Safran had supported Flanagan's pitch before Warner Brothers decided to integrate the film into their rebooted DCU.

James Watkins took over as director, with Hossein Amini handling script revisions. The film will explore the origin of the Matt Hagen incarnation of Clayface, who was previously voiced by Alan Tudyk in the animated series "Creature Commandos." The trailer highlights the film's body horror aspects and dark tone.

Clayface is a notorious DC Comics villain capable of altering his form and composition into a clay-like substance. The film is anticipated to delve into the character's psyche and the unsettling nature of his transformations.

The release date for the film has not yet been announced, but it is expected to be a significant part of the DC Universe's upcoming slate.
