Deadline approaches for Amazon's $2.5 billion settlement claims

The deadline to file a claim for Amazon's $2.5 billion settlement is Monday. Eligible former and current Amazon Prime members can seek compensation, with individual payouts potentially reaching up to $51.

In September, Amazon reached a settlement with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), agreeing to pay a $1 billion civil penalty and establish a $1.5 billion fund for customer refunds. The allegations centered on claims that the company enrolled millions into Prime subscriptions without customers' knowledge or consent and made cancellation difficult.

Eligibility for claims is open to U.S. residents who were unintentionally enrolled in Prime or attempted to cancel without success between June 2019 and June 2025. Claimants must also have used fewer than 10 Prime benefits during any 12-month period and not have already received an automatic refund.

Individual settlement amounts will vary based on the total number of eligible claims filed. Amazon is expected to issue payments later this year. Recipients can opt to receive their funds via check, PayPal, or Venmo.
