Debian Linux Seeks Community Artwork for Upcoming Forky Release

The Debian Linux project has initiated a call for community artwork submissions for its upcoming release, Debian 14, codenamed Forky. Artists have until November 26 to submit their work, with chosen pieces slated for inclusion on boot screens, login prompts, and desktop wallpapers for millions of users.

This open submission process aligns with Debian's long-standing community-driven development model. Submissions must be distinctly 'Debian' in character, integrate seamlessly with the operating system without requiring core software modifications, and offer enduring visual appeal.

The previous release, Debian 13 Trixie, featured Elise Couper's "Ceratopsian" theme. Debian release names are traditionally drawn from characters in the Toy Story franchise, with Trixie being a triceratops from Toy Story 3. The upcoming Forky release continues this tradition, named after a character from Toy Story 4.

Debian developers have advised artists to avoid overly complex designs that could lead to user fatigue. The project aims to select artwork that is both visually engaging and thematically appropriate for the latest iteration of the widely used Linux distribution.
