DeCuzzi Tires Offers Tips for Gokart Handling

DeCuzzi Tires has provided five key tips to help operators enhance the handling and performance of gokarts.

The company emphasizes the importance of adjusting the front end for balanced steering. Achieving an even feel for both left and right turns is crucial for optimal control. Proper weight distribution in the front end is key to ensuring the gokart's stability.

DeCuzzi Tires also clarifies the impact of Ackerman steering adjustments. Correct Ackerman settings ensure that inner wheels turn at a faster rate than outer wheels, which improves steering. Insufficient Ackerman adjustment can lead to slower turns and increased power requirements, while excessive adjustment may make the gokart difficult to manage.

The guidance also covers wheel angle, or camber. Gokarts are typically designed with a half-degree negative camber. However, in wet conditions, increasing negative camber can provide improved grip. Raising the rear ride height is also recommended to enhance traction and prevent over-steering.

Finally, DeCuzzi Tires advises on optimizing tire pressure, suggesting a range of 10-14 psi. While higher pressure can increase grip, excessively high pressure can reduce controllability. The company recommends gradually increasing pressure until the gokart feels loose, then reducing it by 1 psi to identify the optimal setting for specific track conditions and tire compounds.
