Deeptech Funding Surges 2.8X YoY in Q3 as Deal Count Declines

Indian deeptech startups secured significantly more capital in the third quarter of 2026, even as the number of funding deals saw a marginal decrease. Companies in the deeptech sector raised $290 million across 28 deals, compared to $105 million across 29 deals in the same period of 2025, marking a 176% year-over-year surge.

This growth outpaced the broader Indian startup ecosystem, which experienced a 5% funding increase to $2.2 billion. Deeptech, encompassing advanced technologies like spacetech, robotics, and semiconductors, saw its funding concentrated in fewer, larger rounds. Spacetech startups alone accounted for $130 million, with a $100 million round by Pixxel being a notable contributor.

Industry experts highlight challenges in scaling these ventures, particularly the funding gap at later stages (Series B and C). Bridging this gap, increasing domestic investor participation, and improving exit pathways are crucial for developing globally competitive deeptech companies, according to the Indian Venture and Alternate Capital Association (IVCA).

Government initiatives, including the ₹1 Lakh Cr Research, Development and Innovation (RDI) Fund, are credited with supporting the sector's momentum. The launch of new investment vehicles also indicates growing interest. However, concerns have been raised regarding the governance and transparency of the RDI Fund's allocation, suggesting that while capital availability is increasing, its equitable and transparent distribution remains a key factor for the sector's sustained growth.
