DEHN introduces new grounding rod set for retrofitting existing buildings
DEHN has released a new deep earth electrode set, D18014, designed to simplify the retrofitting of grounding systems in older buildings. The solution is particularly suited for renovation projects with limited space.

DEHN has launched the D18014 deep earth electrode set, a solution specifically developed to address the challenges of retrofitting grounding systems in existing buildings. This new product aims to simplify and expedite the installation of grounding systems in locations where conventional methods are difficult or costly.
A functional grounding system is essential for all standard-compliant electrical installations, as it safely conducts fault currents to the ground, protecting people and property. Many older buildings lack documentation for normative grounding or use outdated systems such as water pipe networks. When renovations, energy efficiency upgrades, or installations of new equipment like solar panels, charging stations, or heat pumps are undertaken, a compliant grounding system becomes crucial and may require an update.
While there is generally no obligation to renew the entire electrical installation in older buildings, new or modified system components, such as those for renewable energy, must always comply with current safety and technical standards. DEHN's new set meets the requirements of DIN 18014 and relevant VDE regulations.
The set includes five one-meter-long deep earth electrode rods, which are driven into the ground using a driving tip. These connect to the building's main grounding busbar. The system is flexible and can be used for partial renovations or in new constructions, even with limited space for excavation. Two sets are sufficient for buildings with a foundation area up to 200 m² to meet regulatory requirements.
