Regulatory requirements for electrical safety in buildings have increasingly mandated the installation of surge protection to safeguard sensitive electronic equipment and infrastructure. DEHN has published a technical selection guide to streamline the implementation of these components in residential settings, ensuring compliance with German DIN VDE standards.

The guide highlights the application of the DEHNshield ZP series, which functions as a combined type 1, 2, and 3 arrester. These units are designed for installation at the meter position, a strategic placement that protects the electronic metering infrastructure while conserving space within the sub-distribution board. The manufacturer describes the units as maintenance-free components utilizing spark-gap technology.

Beyond power line protection, the framework covers essential data and telecommunication lines, including satellite and broadband connections. The selection process is bifurcated based on whether the building possesses external lightning protection, reflecting the technical necessity of tailoring surge suppression to specific building parameters.
