The Delhi High Court has issued an interim order directing internet service providers and domain registrars to block eight websites accused of illegally streaming cricket matches broadcast under Sony Pictures Networks India's exclusive rights. The order coincided with ongoing cricket tours.

The court determined that Sony had established a prima facie case for an immediate injunction, citing the urgent need to address recurring piracy of copyrighted content. The ongoing men's and women's England tours were highlighted as particularly time-sensitive.

Domain registrars were instructed to immediately suspend eight specific rogue domains. Internet service providers were directed to block these websites upon receiving the order. India's telecom and IT ministries were also tasked with issuing broader blocking directives to all ISPs.

Sony's counsel argued that the sites constitute "rogue websites" by systematically infringing copyright and lacking verifiable contact information. The court acknowledged these patterns indicated a deliberate effort to distribute unauthorized content.

Sony Pictures Networks India, part of the Sony Group, holds exclusive media rights for various cricket and multi-sport events. The court's decision also allows Sony to more efficiently move against new infringing sites identified during tournaments.
