Delhi High Court Summons Commentator, Outlets Over Doxxing Allegations

The Delhi High Court has issued summons to political commentator Abhijit Iyer-Mitra, media platform The Pamphlet, and news outlet Law Beat. The lawsuit alleges that the defendants publicly disclosed the home address of Saurav Das, the official spokesperson for Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), violating his privacy.

The court also issued a notice to the defendants regarding Das's plea for an interim injunction. The defendants have 10 days to file their replies. Das is seeking over Rs 2 crore in damages and a permanent injunction to prevent the parties from publishing his residential address. He has also asked the court to direct X and Google to take down the content.

X's advocate informed the court that posts related to Das's address had already been removed for violating the platform's terms of service. According to the suit, representatives from The Pamphlet trespassed into Das's south Delhi residence on August 5 and posted a video of the interior on X. The video, which allegedly disclosed Das's address, garnered over 2.1 million views.

Das's counsel stated that The Pamphlet personnel appeared at his property and posted a video that Iyer-Mitra later reposted. The suit further alleges Iyer-Mitra disclosed Das's address on a Law Beat program, incorrectly stating his rent. Das reported filing a police complaint on August 5.

The case is set for further hearing on September 14. This legal action highlights ongoing concerns about privacy in India, particularly regarding the publication of individuals' private information.
