Demand for AI Agent Skills Surges on Wall Street
Job postings mentioning 'agent orchestration' increased by 1,721% this year, making it one of the finance industry's most sought-after technical skills.

Job openings related to artificial intelligence (AI) at Wall Street banks, including JPMorgan Chase, Citigroup, and Capital One, surged by 49% in 2026 compared to the previous year, reaching 139,819 listings. This growth is detailed in an analysis by enterprise hiring data firm Draup, provided exclusively to CNBC.
The fastest-growing area within AI hiring is related to "agent orchestration," the ability to design AI agents that work in concert to complete a task. Mentions of this skill in job postings jumped by a significant 1,721%. "This is arguably the hottest skill on Wall Street," said Draup CEO Vijay Swaminathan in an interview.
Financial institutions are moving beyond basic chatbots to integrate AI directly into their business lines. This involves "forward-deployed engineers" who connect multiple specialized agents to manage complex workflows, from data inspection to regulatory compliance.
These roles require not only technical proficiency but also domain expertise and soft skills like asking the right questions. Positions related to generative AI and agents are also offering higher compensation than other tech roles within the finance sector.
