Denver Public Sector Workers Join Teamsters Union
Nearly 750 public sector workers in Denver, Colorado, have joined the Teamsters union. The move follows voters' approval of a ballot measure granting collective bargaining rights.
Approximately 750 public sector employees in the city and county of Denver have officially joined the Teamsters union. This expansion of union membership comes after a more than 20-year effort to secure collective bargaining rights for these workers.
Employees from departments including Audit Services, Clerk and Recorders, the Crime Lab, and Transportation and Infrastructure have affiliated with Teamsters Local 455 and Local 17. Union officials stated the workers organized to improve working conditions and secure a better future.
The ability for these public sector workers to unionize was established after Denver voters overwhelmingly supported a ballot measure in November 2024. This measure amended the city charter, granting previously denied organizing rights.
Teamsters representatives welcomed the new members and committed to assisting them in negotiating their first contracts. The International Brotherhood of Teamsters has represented workers since 1903.
