DER FEINSCHMECKER Names Germany's Best Cafés and Roasteries

Jahreszeiten Verlag GmbH's publication DER FEINSCHMECKER has unveiled its selection of Germany's top coffee establishments in its December issue. The magazine presents a pocket guide titled '500 best Cafés and Roasteries in Germany,' highlighting a growing landscape of quality coffee destinations across the country.

The guide signifies an increase in high-caliber cafés and coffee roasters throughout Germany. Alongside traditional sweet offerings like Black Forest gateau and fruit tarts, contemporary trends are emerging. These include vegan baked goods, the use of spelt flour over wheat, reduced sugar content, and a focus on regional, organic ingredients. Modern cakes such as New York Cheesecake, banana bread, and "naked cakes" are gaining popularity, as are French pastries like éclairs and macarons.

Coffee roasters are emphasizing originality, sourcing beans from small estates and employing specialized fermentation techniques. Notable examples include "Bombe" coffee from Ethiopia, aged in barrels for 100 hours, and Rwandan coffee matured in whisky casks. The guide also recognizes a "national winner" for the best café and best roaster from each German federal state.

The comprehensive guide, detailing the 500 selected locations, is included with the December issue of DER FEINSCHMECKER. It is available for purchase at 11.90 euros from newsstands.
