Deutsche Bahn replacement bus service between Burg and Biederitz causes frustration

Commuters on the train route between Burg and Biederitz are experiencing growing frustration due to delayed trains, missed connections, and extended waiting times, a consequence of extensive construction work in Gerwisch.

Local media outlet MDR reports that the replacement bus services, implemented to compensate for train cancellations, are repeatedly causing issues. Passengers describe instances where buses depart before delayed trains arrive at the station, leading to significant delays for both work and home arrivals.

The passenger association Pro Bahn has voiced concerns over the lack of coordination between the railway company and bus operators. Pro Bahn spokesperson Tom Bruchholz stated that bus drivers are often not informed about train delays and depart as scheduled, even if the train is only a few minutes late.

Deutsche Bahn has confirmed the difficulties to MDR. According to the company, buses can currently wait a maximum of ten minutes for delayed trains. Reports indicate that approximately one in five connections have been missed. Deutsche Bahn is now considering extending the waiting times for the replacement buses.

The current disruptions stem primarily from Deutsche Bahn's construction of a new electronic signal box in Gerwisch. The original signal box was destroyed in a fire in September 2025, and its reconstruction is expected to take several months. The construction is anticipated to conclude by September 2025, at which point regular train services are expected to resume.
