Deutsche Telekom Achieves Carbon Neutrality in Own Operations

Deutsche Telekom has reached a key milestone in its climate strategy, with the company's own operations becoming net-carbon neutral since the end of 2025. This achievement is part of a broader strategy to embed sustainable business practices into its core operations.

The Group has reduced its Scope 1 and 2 emissions by over 94 percent compared to 2017 levels, with remaining emissions offset through high-quality carbon removal projects. Across its entire value chain, emissions (Scope 1-3) have declined by 38 percent since 2020, aligning with the target of a 55 percent reduction by 2030. Full carbon neutrality across the entire value chain is targeted for 2040.

Despite rapidly increasing data traffic, Telekom continues to improve its energy efficiency. The company aims to maintain stable energy consumption by 2027 (excluding T-Mobile US). Investments in modern infrastructure and intelligent control systems have contributed to reduced energy intensity. The company sources 100 percent renewable electricity and supports the expansion of new wind and solar farms through long-term agreements.

The technology group is also utilizing artificial intelligence (AI) to drive sustainable solutions. AI assists in optimizing energy consumption in networks and data centers, reducing emissions in industry and logistics through digital platforms, and enhancing cybersecurity. Simultaneously, the company focuses on minimizing AI's own environmental footprint through energy-efficient infrastructure and optimized models.
