Deutsche Telekom Begins Fiber Network Build-out in Brühl
Deutsche Telekom has initiated the construction of its fiber network in Brühl, near Mannheim, investing several million euros in new infrastructure.

Deutsche Telekom has commenced the expansion of its fiber optic network in Brühl, a German town near Mannheim. This project officially marks the beginning of the telecom operator's 2011 broadband initiative.
The construction work, which began in late March, aims to connect over 6,000 households with high-speed fiber connections by mid-2012. These connections are expected to provide speeds of up to 200 Mbit/s, enabling future services such as HD and 3D television, and high-speed internet access.
Telekom will install approximately 300 kilometers of fiber optic cable and 56 new network distribution points in Brühl. The town was selected as the starting point for the project due to its geographical location, building structure, and technical infrastructure. The initiative employs "Fibre to the Home" (FTTH) technology, where fiber is run directly into the customer's residence, bypassing traditional copper cables that limit transmission speeds.
Project manager Hans Kraft stated that "Telekom is investing in the network of the future in Brühl." Brühl's mayor, Ralf Göck, expressed anticipation for a "new era" for the town. Telekom indicated that "several million euros" are being invested in the next-generation network infrastructure.
