Deutsche Telekom deploys AI agent to improve mobile network quality

Deutsche Telekom has activated its AI agent, the "RAN Guardian Agent," to support the ongoing improvement of mobile network quality. The system monitors mobile network performance, assists in troubleshooting, and optimizes operations, aiming for faster responses and more resilient network management.

This initiative, presented earlier this year in partnership with Google Cloud, represents a step towards developing autonomous, self-healing networks. The goal is to ensure a superior customer experience through enhanced network operations.

The RAN Guardian Agent operates as a multi-agent system, with specialized AI agents working together. It analyzes network behavior, identifies performance anomalies, and can autonomously initiate corrective actions. Initially, one AI component scans publicly available information, such as social media, to identify upcoming public events across Germany, verifying the data automatically.

Subsequently, another part of the system assesses the mobile network's capacity to handle anticipated traffic during these events. It monitors antenna capacity and key network parameters in real-time. A third AI agent then executes recommended optimization measures, such as reallocating network resources or adjusting configurations.

Deutsche Telekom highlighted that traditional automation methods are insufficient for today's increasingly complex networks. AI agents powered by large language models (LLMs) are seen as the next evolution, capable of understanding, reasoning, acting, and learning. The company reports that processes previously taking around an hour can now be completed in minutes.
