Deutsche Telekom Expands IoT Roaming with Iridium Partnership
Deutsche Telekom has added Iridium's LEO satellite network to its IoT roaming services. The new agreement provides 24/7 connectivity for standard devices globally where terrestrial coverage is unavailable.
Deutsche Telekom is expanding its multi-orbit IoT roaming solution by adding Iridium as a partner. The agreement integrates Deutsche Telekom's global IoT network with Iridium's low Earth orbit (LEO) satellite network.
This expansion offers customers a new option for maintaining IoT device connectivity when terrestrial mobile coverage is absent. Iridium joins other satellite partners, broadening Deutsche Telekom's portfolio for both geostationary (GEO) and LEO orbit connectivity.
A demonstration successfully transmitted a voice message from a Toyota vehicle via Iridium's satellite network using standard NB-IoT technology. This showcased the capability for devices to stay connected in remote areas or during terrestrial network outages.
Deutsche Telekom launched its first commercial multi-orbit IoT connectivity offering in February 2026, combining terrestrial mobile networks with satellite services. The addition of Iridium reinforces the company's "network of networks" strategy, aiming to provide optimal IoT connectivity by integrating terrestrial and non-terrestrial networks.
