Deutsche Telekom introduces AI agents for automated workflows

Bonn. Deutsche Telekom presented artificial intelligence agents at its Digital X event in Cologne, designed to autonomously execute tasks and integrate data across various business systems. CEO Tim Höttges emphasized the significant productivity increases these agents can offer when managed effectively by humans.

"The maximum productivity factor arises from agent systems where a person manages not one, but many agents, which ensure the automated execution of processes on their behalf," Höttges stated. He stressed the need for companies to focus on redesigning entire workflows rather than individual AI tools.

Rodrigo Diehl, CEO of Telekom Deutschland, illustrated this with an example of network capacity management. Previously, employees manually assessed network needs for large events. Now, an AI agent continuously monitors events, correlates this information with network load, and automatically initiates necessary actions. Diehl noted that the entire workflow has been automated, with human oversight remaining crucial for system design and control.

The company has acquired 120,000 ChatGPT licenses and encourages employees to develop their own agents. Two new offerings were also introduced: the T-AI Agent Platform for small to medium-sized businesses and the T-AI Agentic Hub for larger organizations, providing centralized management for agent usage, permissions, and costs.

However, Roman Howe from Anthropic cautioned about the risks. While agents boost productivity, their actions can directly impact business operations. Howe underscored human responsibility and the necessity of robust control mechanisms. He advised companies to invest in clean data and clear processes rather than building systems around the current limitations of AI models.
