Deutsche Telekom Launches AI Development Platform on Open Telekom Cloud

Deutsche Telekom has introduced ModelArts, a platform designed for artificial intelligence developers, as part of its Open Telekom Cloud offering. The beta version of the platform is now available for free testing, providing tools to create and train AI models.

The platform aims to lower the barrier to entry for AI development. Its auto-learning function allows users to train AI models even without extensive programming experience. Different use cases, such as object and image recognition as well as predictive analytics, can be activated with a single mouse click. The process typically involves three steps: providing images with the marked object, training the algorithm, and testing the model's recognition capabilities on new images.

For professional developers, ModelArts offers pre-installed open-source frameworks like Tensorflow, PyTorch, and Mindspore, enabling immediate use of their own code. Additionally, ready-made algorithms and virtual OpenSource Jupyter notebooks facilitate quicker development cycles and provide access to necessary computing and storage resources.

All data preparation and AI training occur exclusively within the Open Telekom Cloud, with training data secured according to GDPR regulations. The finished AI models can be deployed from the cloud or later on edge devices. Resource usage, including computing and storage, is billed based on consumption, with automatic shutdown features to prevent idle costs. During the public beta phase, ModelArts usage is free, excluding costs for storage used.
