Deutsche Telekom launches real-time cyber attack monitoring

Deutsche Telekom has launched a new online portal showing global cyber attacks in real time. The service utilizes over 90 sensors worldwide to collect data on threats.

Deutsche Telekom has launched a new online portal, Sicherheitstacho.eu, providing real-time insights into the global cyber attack landscape. The platform aims to increase transparency regarding the current threat situation.

The service employs more than 90 "honeypot" systems strategically placed worldwide. These systems simulate vulnerabilities to attract and record attack attempts, thereby gathering data on malicious actors. The information collected is displayed on a digital world map indicating attack origins, with a real-time ticker highlighting active targets.

According to the company, approximately 200,000 new variants of viruses, trojans, and worms emerge daily. Deutsche Telekom itself records up to 450,000 attacks per day on its honeypot systems. The launch of this portal addresses the growing importance of proactive cybersecurity and early prevention of cyber criminality.

Deutsche Telekom plans to share its findings with authorities and security software manufacturers. The data gathered will also be used internally to enhance the company's own security systems and to alert customers to specific threats. The portal is available free of charge to security experts and interested parties.

The initiative is part of a partnership with the "alliance for cybersecurity," a collaborative effort between companies and public organizations focused on combating digital attacks.
